I have been on the move for more than forty years in two Land Cruisers, six Land Rovers, four monohull sailboats and one catamaran. During many of those years I received my mail every two months in mail drops around the world. Things are different now. The Positive Mobile Web makes it possible to connect with people anywhere in the world from my Land Rovers and catamaran. I can live my Land Rover dreams and multihull dreams from any point on planet earth.
My multihull dreams started when I was an intern at Gorgas Hospital in the Panama Canal Zone in 1974. I watched the early multihull designs transit the Panama Canal and head out into the South Pacific. They were homemade cats and tris constructed by their owners who literally built their dreams from the keel up. Most of them spent four or more years creating their dream machine.
Those hardy sailors were multihull pioneers. First, they thought their dreams, then they built their dreams with their own two hands, and finally they sailed their dreams. After seeing those early multihulls, I remember telling one of my friends that someday I would sail around the world on a multihull.
Over the years, I met a lot of naysayers and dream stealers who told me that only a foolish person would sail long voyages offshore on a multihull. On one camping trip in a remote section of Saudi Arabia, I mentioned to a fellow camper that I was sailing around the world on a catamaran when I wasn't working in Riyadh. The camper remarked that I was a very brave person to be sailing offshore on a cat. I asked him why he felt that way. He told me that catamarans were dangerous because they flip over at sea. I wondered how he knew so much about the dangers of offshore sailing, and he informed me that he had sailed in a single-handed race across the Atlantic ocean in a monohull sailboat.
Later, he told me that during his attempted solo voyage across the Atlantic, his yacht had been struck by a freighter, and he had to abandon ship because his sailboat sunk in the middle of the Atlantic. It struck me odd that this self proclaimed expert on the dangers of sailing catamarans had his own monohull sink out from underneath him.
Although this person had never sailed on a catamaran offshore, he taught me a valuable lesson. I learned that it's unwise to pontificate about things in which you lack experience and have no first-hand knowledge.
I do a fair amount of talking about catamaran dreams these days, but I have a right to, because I have sailed around the world on a cat. I'll tell you up front that catamarans not only make excellent offshore yachts, they also are SAFE. They are so safe that I loaded my family on board and took them on an eleven year voyage. They are so safe that we never felt fear at anytime during our entire trip around the world , even during storms.
The only person qualified to tell you that you should not sail around the world in a catamaran is another person who has already done it. Anyone else is simply uninformed and is spouting their prejudices about offshore sailing.
The corollary to this point is that if you want to live a dream, the only person who is qualified to advise you about your dream is someone who has already done it.
Don't listen to the naysayers and dream stealers who live in Nowhere Land and who have done nothing with their life. Instead, talk to the Unstoppable, Consistently Positive, Endlessly Persistent, Doers of Dreams, and take their advice. They know what they are talking about, and if you follow their lead, it won't be long before you are sailing on the ocean of your dreams.

Captain Dave and the crew of Exit Only sailed around the world on their Privilege 39 catamaran. They started their voyage as novices, and they finished as experts. They managed storms at sea, survived a global tsunami in Thailand, navigated through the atolls of the South Pacific, and sailed up Pirate Alley in the Red Sea. Sailing UNI chronicles their voyage and passes on the lessons they learned during their eleven year circumnavigation.
If you don't have a space shuttle, if you can't afford a yacht, if you don't like to fly, you can still make a trip around the world. You simply climb into your truck, start driving, and don't stop until you complete the trip. You'll need a couple of years and some Freedom Chips to finance the adventure, but you can make it happen. Travel with us around planet earth on Overland UNI, and before long you might decide to make your own trip.
When you live your dreams, and everyone acts like you are crazy, you must keep going forward. A prophet is without honor in his own country while people half way around the world think you are totally amazing. Sometimes, it makes you want to purchase a one way ticket to your antipodal point on planet earth so that you can assume your rightful place in world history. But in the meantime, while you are saving up for that airline ticket, you should keep going forward.
We have been sailing around the world for eleven years on our catamaran, Exit Only, and what a trip it has been, full of agony and ecstasy, and everything in between. Captain Dave nearly died in a car accident in New Zealand, and I reckon that qualifies as agony. In the ecstasy department, we sailed 33,000 miles around the world, and have seen the things sailing dreams are made of.
At the end of each decade of your life, you should sit down and write a short essay entitled "What I Have Learned So Far." Each decade is different, and the lessons you learn are different as well. It's almost as if you get a new life during each decade. Your beliefs change about who you are and what you can do, and you actually become a different person.
I am a hard core expatriate who lived outside the United States for twenty-eight years. During all of those years of travel, I became an expert at packing my bags to the hilt. I was allowed two eighty pound bags, and everytime I went overseas, I carried one-hundred and sixty pounds of luggage. Half of that weight was in books. Now things have changed. I carry nearly all my books on my tablets and smart phone. I easily carry ten tons of eBooks on my electronic devices without a problem.
If you are like me, you are always on the run, and it's not always easy to stay positive. UNTIL NOW! It just got a great deal easier because Dr. Dave created a series of positive websites that are smartphone friendly. The sites display just as well on the small screen as they do on the desktop. Now you can take your positive thinking with you wherever you go and have positive thinking on demand. If you are feeling down, simply turn on your smartphone and visit Mobile Positive Thinking.
People are always looking for miracles, but they overlook the obvious. They are a miracle of God's creation and love. Every breath they take and every beat of their heart resonates with the miraculous. From the top of their head to the tip of their toes, they are a miracle. Every time you think that you need a miracle, stand in front of a mirror and take a look at yourself. You are God's greatest miracle. For as long as you've been on planet earth, God has been working miracles in your life.
It doesn't matter whether you are getting your kicks driving on Route 66, or standing on a corner in Winslow, Arizona, you can still download positive scriptures on your smartphone and tablet. In fact, you can download positive scriptures anywhere on planet earth as long as you have a wireless connection simply by visiting Mobile Scripture. You instantly discover fifty scriptures that you need to have in your mind. Anytime is the right time to put powerful positive scriptures into your mind.
Mark Twain once remarked that life doesn’t consist so much of facts and events. Instead, it consists mainly of the storm of thoughts blowing endlessly through my mind. Most of the time, I can deal with the facts of life without too much difficulty. It’s the storm of thoughts that causes such a problem. I will die a thousand deaths before my final day of reckoning comes. Most of my problems never happen anywhere except in my mind.
People act as if what they talk about doesn't matter. They don't understand that what they say expands into their life. No reasonable person would take a handful of toxic waste and put it into their mind. Nevertheless, that's exactly what you do when you talk about negative things. Every time you tell other people what's wrong with your life, and how your problems are driving you crazy, you put toxic waste into your mind. You are sowing the seeds of your own destruction.
God has given you all the tools you need to have a positive mind. God gave you the power of positive self-talk to fill your mind with positive things. If you consistently and persistently repeat positive thoughts, it is inevitable that your mind will start repeating those same positive thoughts back to you.
Birds are the only animals that can talk without the words changing their lives. Birds can say anything they want, even four letter words, without the slightest damage to their mind. The reason is simple. Bird's don't know what they are saying. Millions of people talk like they are parrots. They swear like salors and lace their speech with profanity. These folks would be better off if they were parrots, because at least their destructive words would not get into their mind.
The power of positive self-talk is immense. Take a lesson from God, and use positive self-talk to create a positive world. Tell yourself, "I am who God says I am, and I am who I say that I am." Get in agreement with God about who you are and what you can do with your life, and it won't be long before miracles start to happen. Christian positive self-talk will change your world.
Too many people die before their time. They place a period in the sentence of life where God only places a comma. Always remember that it's never over before God says it's over. There is no reason to quit until God says it's quitting time. Negative self-talkers tell themselves it's over years before God says it over. Their self-talk makes them die before their time. If these quitters had persisted for a few more nanoseconds, their dreams would have come true. Their mistake literally cost them their dreams.
Reprogramming your mind has never been easier. In the digital age you can take your programming tools with you wherever you go. Smart phones and tablets make it possible to reprogram your mind in planes, trains, cars, subways, at work, and at home. You can perform a mind transplant anywhere and anytime. A smart phone or tablet can contain a full library of positive resources without increasing the weight of the device by even an ounce.
Positive self-talk is not the invention of man. It's the invention of God, and it was given as a gift to mankind so that we could speak our new lives into existence. The Bible has lots of examples of positive self-talk being used to make good things happen in the hearts and minds of those who love and serve God. In the book of Joel in the Old Testament, the Bible encourages us to use positive self-talk. Joel 3:10 says, Let the weak say, "I am strong." It's very clear that self-talk is not about where you are at the present moment. It's about where you are going with God's help. Amazing things happen when people get in agreement with God about who they are and what they can do with their life.
You don't have to let the voice of depression control your inner dialogue. You can use positive self-talk to change the conversation. What you say to yourself determines the focus of your mind and helps you reestablish command and control over your thoughts. If you want to have a mind free from depression, nobody can stop you.
Fear and limitations are traveling companions. When one is present, the other is not far away. When I think limiting thoughts, it's usually because I am afraid, and when I think fearful thoughts, limitations suddently rear their ugly head. On the other hand, when I send fear packing, my limitations disappear, and when I ignore my limiting thoughts, fear melts away as well.
Positive Christian self-talk is more than positive thinking. It is positive preparation that makes miracles possible. It gets you to a place where miracles can occur. It helps you get in agreement with God about who you are and what you can do in your life. It's not a mindless mantra that you endlessly repeat hoping that things will get better. Positive Christian self-talk puts both feet on the ground and takes you to a miraculous destination.
Affirmations are a special form of positive self-talk designed to change the way I feel. The Bible says, "As a man thinks in his heart, so is he." Affirmations are not aimed at my mind. They are primarly aimed at my heart, and they give me the power to change what is in my heart. Affirmations do more than change the way I think; they also change the way I feel.
Self-talk is not optional. It's something you do every day all day long. The only question is whether your self-talk is positive or negative, whether it makes your life better or worse. If you don't like what you hear when your mind talks to you, you have the power to change the message. You don't have to accept the self-talk programmed into your mind by other people . You can make your self-talk into anything you want.
I like self-talk that puts things in perspective without resorting to hype and hyperbole. Hype makes extravagant claims that have no basis in reality, and hyperbole uses exaggeration to overstate the case. Writers need to avoid hype and hyperbole, because most readers are not adrenaline junkies in search of a new high. They are not easily fooled, and they want honest writing that tells things like they really are. That is why I go to great length to avoid hyperbole and hype.
Until you get your self-talk right, good things cannot happen in your life. Self-talk is a form of predestination, and if you can't put your destination into a self-talk format, then it's unlikely you will ever make the trip to your dreams. There are two major types of self-talk, and both of them are important. The first type gets you fired up and ready to go. The second type keeps you going once you are on your way.The first type decides whether you start on the path to your dreams. The second type determines whether you continue on the path. The first type lasts until you get started. The second type lasts until your dreams come true.
When I was ten years old, my parents gave me a tiny transistorized short wave radio that fit in the palms of my hands. At night I laid in bed and listened to broadcasts from around the world, and I imagined myself in hundreds of different destinations on planet earth. I didn't know how I would ever get there, but one day I would visit all of those places. Much later in life I discovered that I was addicted to freedom, and I became a citizen of the world. That is why I am Safari Daktari, and the world is my home.
Never underestimate the power of a single idea. On more than one occasion, a single idea has shaped my destiny. When I was in grade school, I read Dr. Paul White's book, Doctor of Tanganyika, and I instantly knew that I wanted to work as a doctor in developing countries. That single idea took root in my mind and still remains a compelling force in my life. Because of his influence, I worked overseas in Panama, Liberia, Kenya and Saudi Arabia in my carreer in international medicine.
A wise man once said, "If you want to make God laugh, tell him about your plans," and I am inclined to agree. My plan is to get in agreement with God about who I am and what I can do with my life. It's not that I don't have any plans. Rather I have a general direction to my life and my bucket list is half a mile long, but my time is in God's hands, and his plan is better than anything I can imagine. That's my plan, and I'm sticking to it.
I am a Daktari without borders who is a citizen of the world. The first time I went to Africa, people told me that I would experience culture shock, and that it would be hard to adjust to the compromises required living in another culture halfway around the world. For the past forty-five years, I have been waiting for culture shock to strike, and so far it has not happened. The only culture shock I experienced happened when I returned to the USA after being away for nearly a quarter of a century.
I am a swimming instructor, and I give swimming lessons in God's ocean of love. When you love people, they instantly recognize it. No explanation required. Jesus said you could recognize his disciples by their love. It's the hallmark that identifies them as children of God. It's their way of life. I can think of no higher calling than being a swimming instructor in God's ocean of love.
God is love and works by love. The power and presence of God in my life is love. Every time I see love, I see God's hand at work. Every time I feel love, I experience God's presence and power. When my mind is full of thoughts consistent with God's love, my thoughts are healthy, and my mind is exactly the way God means for it to be. When my heart is full of emotions consistent with God's love, my emotions are healthy, and they are exactly the way God means for them to be. There is no limit to how good my life can become when I open my heart and mind to the power of His love. God loves and accepts me the way I am, but He loves me to much to let me stay that way. He loves me from the top of my head to the tip of my toes, and it does not get any better than that. For the rest of my life I will max out on God's love. Real Power: Maxing Out on God's Love is now available in ebook format at Amazon, iTunes, Kobo and Barnes and Noble.
Positive thinking is the natural software for your mind. God designed a positive software package that would permit your mind to function at full capacity and maximum efficiency. He created your mind to work best with a positive operating system. Negative thinking doesn't work well, because your mind was not designed to function with a negative operating system.
Our Land Rover is parked at a rocky outcrop on the edge of the the Dhana desert in Arabia. In a couple of hours, we'll be sitting around a campfire with the milky way galaxy extending overhead from horizon to horizon. A Land Rover, giant star dunes, friends sitting around a campfire, and the milky way overhead is as good as it gets. It's also a terrific time to focus on a few great thoughts.
Outward appearances are deceiving, so don't be too quick to judge. Take caterpillars, for instance. Some caterpillars are a thing of beauty, but most of them aren't much to look at. They crawl around like colored worms, they eat leaves for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and they have the personality of a sea slug. When God passed out good looks, he apparently skipped the caterpillars.
God has given you all the tools you need to have a positive mind. People complain that it's difficult to live as a positive person in a negative world. They talk as if the odds are stacked against them. They should accept their miserable existence and learn to live with a negative mind.Nothing could be further from the truth. You can use the power of positive repetition to change your mind.
Since the beginning of time, astronomers have searched the sky for signs of life, and so far the only place where life is known to exist is on planet earth. Earth is unique because it’s chock-a-block with life; it’s everywhere, and it’s relentless. The reason earth is such an awesome place is because it’s a sanctuary for life in an otherwise hostile universe.
You only get one life, so you better get it right the first time. If you understand the CURVES OF LIFE, you have a better chance of getting it right the first time. There are actually three curves. The first is called the gusto curve, the second is the money curve, and the third is the time curve. Here's how they work. Your gusto curve and time curve start at the top and eventually go down to zero. Your money curve starts at zero and exponentially climbs throughout your life. When the curves of life cross, an alarm should go off in your mind, because from that point on, time becomes more valuable than money. You are sliding rapidly down the gusto curve, and you are running out of time.
After living outside the United States for twenty-eight years, I am finally connected. I completed my sailing voyage around the world on my sailboat, I'm back in the USA, and I now have a cell phone. Don't feel sorry for me because I wasn't connected for all those years. I was connected to other things, and I didn't need a cell tower to feel my life was good.
If you start thinking new thoughts and taking new actions, you get a new life. It's just that easy. You can get a new one anytime you want and anywhere you are. You simply think new thoughts and take new actions. If you want to sail on a small sailboat around the world, you must think and act your circumnavigation into existence. It's not rocket science. Anyone can do it.
I don't know how many years I have left, but in the time that remains, I intend to finish well. I am going to make a difference in the lives of the people I meet. My life will be a part of something great. I am a purveyor of dreams and an encourager, and I will send a message of hope around the world with my websites and books. You have been warned. I will do my best to rock your world.
People who are psychologically blind don't control what they put into their mind. They don't understand that what they put inside will come back to haunt them. Everything they put in their mind is important because it changes who they are. When they change the things they look at, the way they look at things changes.
Captain Cook sailed the uncharted waters of the Pacific with vessels that did not sail to windward, and with infinite patience and unstoppable persistence, he explored and charted the waters and islands of the Pacific. He sailed where no European had sailed before on the Positive Blue Marble called earth.
I can't say that I have ever been depressed. There have been plenty of times that I have been down and discouraged, but I have never lost command and control or believed the negative thoughts that occasionally blow through my mind. But when I get down, I know the cure. All I have to do is climb into my Land Rover, and suddenly I feel great. Once I get behind the wheel of my Defender, I am instantly transported to a positive destination, and I know that life is good.
For most people, negative thinking is simply a sign of fatigue. Fatigue is normal; it isn't a pathological state, and it's a mistake to regard it as such. Fatigue makes cowards of everyone. When you are tired, your problems appear insurmountable. Although the horizon of life was clear only a few hours earlier, now mountains of difficulty suddenly loom into view. Your fears are now overwhelming. All of the hobgoblins of your subconscious mind dance merrily in front of your eyes.
Overcoming depression is hard, perhaps the hardest thing you will ever do. But if you want to have a mind free from depression, nobody can stop you. Your emotions are a reflection of your thoughts. When you change your thoughts, your emotions automatically follow. You don't have to battle the negative and twisted emotions echoing in your mind. Instead you need to learn how to change the way you think, and your emotions will naturally take care of themselves. The challenge you face in depression is to change the way you think. If you want to change the way you think and feel, you are going to have to change your inner dialogue. You are going to have to talk to your mind in a different manner. A persistently positive focus creates a consistently positive mind. The battle for a positive mind is fought on the battlefield of focus. In order to break the back of depression, you will have to learn how to persistently and consistently control your mental focus. Zero Tolerance to Negative Thinking is now available in ebook format at Amazon, iTunes, Kobo and Barnes and Noble.
Before the advent of smartphones, I carried my mobile affirmations on file cards. Some affirmations have been with me for more than twenty years, and the file cards are dogeared and worn out. Those card were good companions that helped me get through the hard times. Some day I will frame them and put them on the wall of my office. The cards are more than paper with written affirmations. They also contain memories of all the major victories in my life.
The universe reveals the mind of God, and the Bible reveals his heart of love. The entire universe is an expression of God's creative power. We serve an awesome God who thinks and speaks worlds into existence. Our planet is only a tiny speck in our solar system, which is a tiny speck in the Milky Way Galaxy, which is a tiny speck on the edge of an expanding universe. We ask ourselves, "Who is man that God would think of him?" We act as if we are an afterthought of God. But we have it backwards. We are not an afterthought of God. We are the reason the universe exists.
Your brain is a powerful affirming machine that affirms the negative just as easily as the positive, the bad just as easily as the good. Your brain is positive about many things that are factually untrue. And when you are positive about the wrong things, your positive thinking actually gets you into trouble. It turns out that positive thinking is not always positive when you are affirming dark, destructive thoughts.
God’s dream for your life is better than anything you can imagine. God’s plan for your life is full of open doors that only you can close. God not only has a plan, He has backup plans just in case you have problems along the way. Your mistakes are not a surprise to God, and He has more contingency plans than you have faults and failures.
Jesus created a world ruled by expectations. You don't get what you want. You get what you expect. It doesn't matter if your expectations are positive or negative, you will still get what you expect. Jesus said, "As you believe, so shall it be done unto you. No matter how hard you work and how much you hope, it's what you expect that counts. The Law of Expectations will make or break your life. When I know your expectations, I can predict your future.
I am the Positive Expectations Doctor. When I get up in the morning, I don't have to think about what I am going to do on that day. I have one job and one job only. My job is to change people's expectations about who they are and what they can do with their lives. The easiest thing to do on planet earth is to pass out pills to patients, and the hardest thing to do is change their expectations.
Fear is a liar, and if you listen to the voice of fear, you will never live your dreams. When I was sailing through the Bab Al Mandeb in the southern Red Sea, I had fifty knots of wind on the port quarter, and I was soaked to the skin by breaking seas crashing into the yacht. Although I was wet and cold, there was no fear in my heart. My options were to sail on into the night and get extremely tired and wet, or to find an anchorage in the storm and hold on. Fear was not an option.
The Fear Doctor is in, and it's time to listen up. Fear and negativity always travel together, and you need to banish them both from your mind. You don't want them sailing with you on the ocean of your dreams. More than once during our sailing voyage around the world, our situation was a bit tenuous, but I can't say that I was ever afraid. Instead of listening to the voice of fear, I focused on doing those things that kept us safe, and you should do the same.
Fear should be a warning rather than a way of life. Unfortunately some people adopt a fear-based existence, and fear becomes a major driving force in their lives. Most people fear the wrong thing. Advertising loves the gospel of fear because it sells. Fearing the unlikely and the absurd is largely a waste of time and energy and misdirects your focus. In most cases, the thing that you fear is not the enemy. It is fear itself that is the real problem.
Although the Self Talk Bookstore is open for business, there are a few places on planet earth where downloads are unavailable. When you are getting pummeled with fifty knots of wind in the southern Red Sea, you quickly discover that there are no wireless towers in the Bab al Mandeb. It probably has something to do with pirates. Wireless companies are afraid that someone might do more than steal their signal; the pirates might also steal the cell towers.
My green Defender is bogged down to the axles in the sands of the Arabian Empty Quarter. You might think that being monumentally stuck three-hundred kilometers off-road would make me sad, but if you thought that, you would be wrong. Why? Because if I am stuck, that means I am living my sand dreams.
Too many people have their life on hold waiting for the perfect place and time to work on their dreams. Unfortunately, if you don't work on them every day, they will never happen. You simply run out of time.Wherever you are is exactly the right place to work on your dreams.
Of all the challenges I face each day, living in the moment is probably the most difficult. I know I should be savoring each evanescent nanosecond that races through my life, but the truth is that too much of the time I'm somewhere other than here. No matter where my body is, my mind is someplace else.
More change is happening in the twenty-first century than at any other time in history, and the pace of change is accelerating. People who rise to the top in our new world will be those who are masters of change. They have done the math, and they are riding the exponential curve of positive change all the way to their dreams.
I have always wanted to be an explorer. Perhaps that is why I spent so much time sailing around the world on my catamaran and driving outback and beyond in my Land Rovers. Every time I explore a new world, I am reminded to not take my own world so seriously. After all, my world is not the world. It's only my way of looking at the world.
I am a daktari without borders. I am not sure when and where borders disappeared from my mind, but sometime in the last quarter century, I became a citizen of the world. Wherever I am on planet earth, I feel at home in my borderless world. Sometimes I get the feeling that borders are fictional boundaries created by the rich and powerful to maintain their power and wealth.
The sea is the final frontier. It's the last place on the planet that hasn't been divided up, regulated, restricted and strangulated by over-reaching governments. You simply point the bow of your yacht offshore, and instantly you are free on the final frontier.
Times have changed. I can now drive my Land Rover anywhere on planet earth and take all of my favorite books with me. In the bad old days, my mobile library consisted of four or five books because of weight and space limitations in our expeditionary vehicle. Now I can carry ten tons of books on my tablet and smartphone to the ends of the earth.
You are on a no limits expedition in which there is no limit to how good your life can become. Life is a test, and if you don't quit, you pass the test. Quitting is a terminal disease for which their is no cure, and doubting is nearly as bad. If you are going to doubt anything at all, you should doubt your limits.
Surviving sandstorms is easy. All you have to do is hunker down and hang on until the storm is over. Surviving the storms of the mind is an entirely different matter. The last time I checked the statistics, over eighteen thousand people used guns to commit suicide in the USA in a single year. When I listen to the news and talk with my patients, it's clear that there's an epidemic of depression sweeping over the land. Now is a good time to buy stock in drug companies that sell antidepressant drugs. So what went wrong? Lots of things went wrong, and nearly all of them are preventable. We have met the enemy, and he is us.
Although I have lots of things that I would like to see and do, my bucklet list does not contain any of those items. My list consists of great ideas that I want to make a part of my life. When that happens, my life will truly be my message. Until then, I have work to do.
Welcome to the twenty-first century where you can place an entire library of positive books in your shirt pocket. Taking your positive thinking books with you has never been easier. Your entire positive library resides comfortably in your pocket on your smartphone. You literally have a Positive Pocket Library that contains your Positive Pocket Books. Your library even includes Power Graphics that you can view and Positive Podcasts that you play on demand.
Smartphones are exceptionally smart, but they have a problem. Smartphones are not positive. Engineers are not interested in positive. They are interested in performance. I want smartphones to be positive, and it's my goal is to put the positive into smart phones around the world. The wheel of change always turns in the direction of what you put into your mind, and your smartphone gives you the power to fill your mind with positive things and to turn your life in a positive direction. For the first time in history, you hold in the palm of your hand everything you need to have a positive mind.
The war for a positive mind is fought on the battlefield of focus. A persistently positive focus creates a consistently positive mind. That is why positive eBooks and smartphones are so valuable. They help you maintain a persistently positive focus. You need to have a "pocket full of positive" with you at all times. Before the advent of smartphones and positive eBooks, I wrote positive quotes on file cards that I carried around with me. I ended up with a pocket full of file cards that I read through several times a day. Things are different now. I use smartphones and eBooks to push my mind in a positive direction.
The most powerful force in the universe is God's love, and when your heart is full of his love, it's full of God's presence and power. Positive Spiritual Power is not about you. It's about the power of love working through you to make a difference in the world. Spiritual power is not something that you possess; it's something you experience. If you want to have positive spiritual power, you simply become God's love in the world.
Don't believe everything you hear when your mind talks to you. Your mind is always in replay mode, and much of what it says is frankly wrong and out of touch with reality. If you don't like what you hear when your mind talks to you, you have the power to change the message. When your mind starts telling you twisted and depressing thoughts, it time to switch to a different channel. When the inner ogre gets out of control, you don't have to take the abuse. Instead, beat him into submission with positive self-talk from the Positive Self-Talk Store. A few mintues of reading Dr. Dave's positive self-talk will send the inner ogre on his way.
The battle against depression is fought on the battlefield of focus. As long as you let depression do all the talking and control your mental focus, the battle is lost. It's impossible to win the battle until you go on the offensive and control the focus of your mind. If you are going to win the battle, you are going to have to discover the power of positive focus and use every tool at your disposal to develop and maintain a positive mental focus.
Depression is a command and control issue. Either you control your mind, or it controls you. If your mind controls you, if it continually bombards you with chaotic racing thoughts that you don't want to think, if negative thoughts dominate your mind, then it's time to reestablish command and control. If you are not in command of your mind and you don't control the thoughts that you find there, then you have significant depression.
Just because you think negative thoughts doesn't mean you are depressed or that you have a problem with depression. You may simply be a pessimist who sees the cup half empty rather than half full. A less than optimistic point of view isn't always pathological. A pessimistic outlook may make your life harder than it needs to be, but that doesn't mean you have clinical depression.
Your mind is actually an affirming machine, and your beliefs about yourself and your world are what your mind affirms all day long. That is why positive affirmations are so powerful. They are food for the hungry mind. Your mind has a voracious appetite for affirmations that it can devour and repeat. Positive Thinking is actually affirmative thinking.
Negative thoughts are parasites. They live off the energy you give them when you focus on them. Focusing on them is like giving them a transfusion with your own blood. You become psychologically anemic as they suck the blood from your mental veins. They become stronger as you become weaker. You destroy yourself when you do this.
Welcome to the Land of Depression where backward thinking rules. In fact, backward thinking is the law of the land, and you actually believe that you are what you feel. You don't focus on the facts of life. Instead you focus on your feelings. If you want to know how you are doing, you look at your feelings rather than at the facts.
The single most important lesson that I have learned in the past fifty years is that you don't get what you want. You get what you expect. Positive expectations really do make a difference. If you have a problem with depression, it's time to get some new expectations. It's time to expect that you will get better.
You have a lot of things to discuss with your mind, and everything you say needs to be positive. If you don't like what you hear when your mind talks to you, you have the power to change the message. The problem isn't the voice; it's what the voice has to say. You can change the way you think and feel by changing what you say when you talk to your mind.
There is no single cure for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. There are lots of ways to get better, and even more ways to get worse. PTSD is not a single disorder with a single cause, and what works for one person may not work for another. Winning the battle for a positive mind may be the hardest thing you ever do, but you need to understand that it is possible to win the battle.
What you put into your mind is critical. The only way to become a positive person is to put positive things inside. You can make your mind as positive as you want if you are willing to put positive things into your mind. The wheel of change always turns in the direction of what you put into your mind.
The inner emotional skeptic isn't interested in logic. It's more susceptible to the power of repetition than it is to the power of reason. If you repeat anything enough times, the inner skeptic slowly has a change of heart, and it changes the way you feel. You never need to argue with your emotions. You simply overwhelm them with positive affirmations.
God loves and accepts you the way that you are, and his love forms the foundation for true self-esteem. God says that you are worthy because He created you and loves you with all your imperfections and weaknesses. Since God loves you, it's OK for you to love yourself and feel good about yourself. If it's good enough for God, it should be good enough for you.
You have a high degree of control over your brain chemistry. What you put into your mind affects the chemistry of your brain. When you put in positive things, you push the chemistry in a positive direction. When you put in negative things, you push it in a negative direction. You are not the victim of your brain chemistry. In a very real sense, you are its creator.
God created you and He knows you better than you know yourself. He knows what ails you, and He knows the cure. No matter what therapies you have tried in the past, if you have not experienced God's love, you are missing out on the most powerful medicine in the universe.
Christians get depressed just like everyone else. It would be nice if spiritual belief made you immune to mood disorders and clinical depression, but that is not the case. In some instances, depression may be worse in Christians because they think that their depression reflects a lack of faith in God, which makes them feel even more depressed.

Limiting thoughts are a disguised form of negation. They are a way that I say no to life while pretending that life is saying no to me. Limitations are plausible self-deceptions. They are prefabricated excuses for every failure to be what I want to be and to do what I want to do. Maximum Strength Positive Thinking
I can make a living or make a life. When I make a living, I focus on survival. When I make a life, I focus on my dreams. Maximum Strength Positive Thinking
Change first happens in my mind. Whatever I am or ever will be is first found in my mind. In order to have a new life, I need a new way of thinking. That is where everything starts. I can change who I am by changing what I put into my mind. Maximum Strength Positive Thinking
If I am having trouble geting permission to do the things I want to do, I need to take a look in the mirror. The person in the mirror is the only one who can give me permission to go for my dreams. All other permission rituals are irrelevant. My life is mine alone, and that is sufficient authority to grant whatever permission is required. Maximum Strength Positive Thinking
The way I use my mind defines what it means to be me. At the most basic level, I am what I think about all day long. My mind is the only part of me that can change or that would ever be worth changing. If I want to change who I am, I must change the collection of thoughts that defines what it means to be me. Maximum Strength Positive Thinking
I will live the rest of my life as if I am a great person. I will practice being great each day of my life. I have only one life, and I may as well make it a great one. I have little to lose and much to gain by living as if I am great. I will live as if my dreams are possible and work each day to make them happen. Maximum Strength Positive Thinking
A positive mind is not an accident. It's the product of positive mental focus. A persistently positive focus creates a consistently positive mind. Maximum Strength Positive Thinking

Living small serves no great purpose. Living as if you are a great person is a powerful idea that changes lives, and those who take it seriously change their world. Living as if you are great means you live as if your dreams are possible and work each day to make them happen. You act as if you cannot fail. In order to live as if you are great, you have to think the way great people think, talk the way great people talk, and act the way great people act. Great people think, talk, and act their dreams into existence. If you ever become great, it will be because you think great thoughts, repeat great self-talk, have great expectations, and act as if you cannot fail. Some people wrongly believe that change is impossible. Leopards don't change their spots, and zebra stripes are forever. But people are different. People change their stars. They change their stripes, and their spots disappear in an instant of time. That instant happens the moment they develop positive expectations and believe they have the power to change. Positive self-talk and positive expectations can take you anywhere you want to go. Positive Self-Talk Purple Book is now available in ebook format at Amazon, iTunes, Kobo and Barnes and Noble.
When you change your expectations, you change your life. Positive Self-Talk Purple Book

A persistently positive focus creates a consistently positive mind. The same is true of your self-talk. It must be persistent, positive, and specific to have maximum impact. Lack of persistentce has laid more dreams to rest in the cemetery of failure than any other cause. There is zero chance that you will succeed on your first attempt. If your dreams are great, You will fail again and again on your way to the top. Before you can be great, you have to be good. Before you can be good, you have to be bad. Before you can be bad, you have to try. Millions of people stop at try. Thousands get stuck at bad. Hundreds quit at good. A few go all the way to great. If you don't have persistence, you willl never make the trip from try to bad to good to great. My favorite sand box in the entire world is the Empty Quarter of Saudi Arabia. Over a million square kilometers of sandy adventures await those who are willing to outfit an expeditionary vehicle so that it is ready for deep desert exploration. I had three Land Rover Defenders while I worked in Arabia, and each weekend we climbed into our Defenders and headed off into a sea of sand.
We camped between 60 to 90 nights a year in the Arabian sands. On a scale of one to ten, I rate the Arabian sands as an eleven, and I wish that I was still gliding over those dunes in one of my Defenders.

It turns out that the impossible is not always impossible.
Impossible dares you to live your dreams. It's a test of whether you are willing to do whatever it takes to make your dreams come true.
Everything in your life fits into two columns. One column is labeled possible, and the other is labeled impossible. Your job is to move everything over to the possible column.
With God, all things are possible. Impossible doesn't exist in God's universe, and it shouldn't exist in yours. Impossible is not in God's vocabulary, and it shouldn't be in yours.
The day you came into this world, a star was born. Unfortunately, you may have forgotten about that star. You may not remember that it even exists.
You may feel like you need to change your stars, but the truth is it's impossible to change them. Your stars are what they are, and no matter how hard you try, they will not change. This is actually good news, because you don't need to change those stars. You need to remember them.
Inner blindness hides your stars from your eyes. You need to see them once again. You need to remember what your life was like before the world told you everything you could not do and compressed you into its mold.
When God created you, He gave you everything you need to live a happy and abundant life.
God is on your side, and when you get in agreement with Him, the scales fall off your eyes, and you see once again. The fog lifts from your mind, and you remember your true identity. You become the person that God created you to be
Your shackles fall off, and God takes you to places far beyond your early limited dreams. You become an unstoppable, consistently positive, endlessly persistent doer of dreams. You become a sharp instrument in the hands of a loving God.
The God who created the infinite universe also created you in his image. He did not shackle you with limitations, but instead gave you the capacity to have quantum beliefs. He gave you the ability to think and act your life into existence. He gave you the power of quantum beliefs, quantum expectations, and quantum change.
You have the ability to make your life into what you want it to be. You can get in agreement with God about who you are and what you can do with your life. There is no limit to how good your life can become when you get your quantum beliefs right.
It required sixteen days to sail across the Atlantic on Exit Only, my 39 foot catamaran. From my perch on the mainsail, I had plenty of time to contemplate during the journey. My time at sea offered lots of opportunities to think about what I have learned so far, and to reflect on the positive guideposts that have allowed me to sail on the ocean of my dreams.
So here you have, free of charge, some of the biggest lessons I have learned about positive thinking.
These are my guideposts on the journey to a positive mind.
